ESPRESSO MARTINI
COCKTAIL RECIPE
The Espresso Martini has well and truly become a prominent feature of the Australian cocktail scene. It’s one of the most popular orders at bars all around the country, which is no surprise given our love of coffee. Especially in Melbourne! With our strong coffee culture – for which we can thank post-war Italian migrants – we have embraced it with open arms, and eventually elevated it to superstar status.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED –
15mL coffee liqueur
45mL vodka (try our triple distilled version or the barrel aged vodka for a nice twist)
15mL sugar syrup
30mL espresso coffee
Ice
Coffee beans to garnish
HOW TO MAKE IT –
Pour coffee liqueur, vodka, sugar syrup, espresso coffee and ice into a cocktail shaker
Shake all ingredients (hard) and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with coffee beans or get really fancy and garnish with star anise and a cinnamon stick!
THE CLASSIC
NEGRONI COCKTAIL
What could be more classic than the Negroni? Thought to have been around for over 100 years it is attributed to Count Camillo Negroni who apparently loved an Americano cocktail (bitter orange, sweet vermouth and soda) but wanted something stronger so gin was added and, hey presto! the Negroni was born. It has grown in popularity since then and there’s now a National Negroni Week in September each year.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED –
25mL bitter orange liqueur
25mL sweet vermouth
25mL gin. (Try our Wild Rose Gin with deep floral and citrus flavours)
Ice
Orange slice, to garnish
HOW TO MAKE IT –
Add bitter orange liqueur, sweet vermouth, gin and ice to a tumbler glass. Add ice, then stir all ingredients until chilled. Garnish with an orange slice. Saluté!
OLD FASHIONED COCKTAIL
It's a staple at every dark, smoky cocktail bar, and probably the cocktail of choice for Bogey himself! Perfect for a Friday night knock off or the closing act of a Saturday night on the town. As far as ingredients go, the Old Fashioned couldn't be simpler; just spirit, sugar, water and bitters. The easiest way to add some variety to your Old Fashioned is by changing up the base spirit. We recommend our barrel aged bourbon for a nice Kentucky style kick!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED -
50mL bourbon
10mL sugar syrup
3 dashes bitters
Orange and lemon twists for garnish.
HOW TO MAKE IT -
Add bourbon, sugar syrup and bitters to a glass. Add ice to glass and stir 5–6 times using a cocktail spoon. Garnish with orange and lemon twists and enjoy!
APPLETINI
Need something quick and refreshing and delicious? Look no further than a delicious Appletini.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED -
50mL vodka (try our barrel aged vodka for an extra kick!)
50mL cloudy apple juice
1tsp lemon juice.
1tsp maple syrup or sugar syrup
Ice
HOW TO MAKE IT -
Add all ingredients into an ice filled cocktail shaker. Shake until combined and strain into a classic martini glass. Garnish with an apple slice or a slice of dried apple. Enjoy!
ROSEMARY GIMLET
A classic gimlet is made with gin, lime juice and simple syrup. Depending on the recipe, the proportions of each ingredient will vary slightly. This rosemary version uses a simple syrup infused with fresh rosemary to add the subtle flavour and make it more Christmassy!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED -
Rosemary Simple Syrup (sugar, water and rosemary)
50ml Gin (try our Wild Rose Gin)
Lime Juice
HOW TO MAKE IT -
On a pan over medium heat, heat up ¼ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup water and 3 tablespoons of fresh rosemary. Stir occasionally. Continue to heat the mixture until the sugar has fully dissolved, which will take about 5 minutes. Then, remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature before using in your cocktail.
Add the syrup, gin and lime juice to a shaker and shake gently to mix.
This recipe makes enough simple syrup for two cocktails. You can prepare this syrup in advance and store it in a sealed jar in the fridge for quick cocktail preparation later on. Enjoy!
POMEGRANATE AND ROSEMARY GIN SPARKLER
This look super fancy but is easy to make once you've done the initial prep work. It's a delicious holiday cocktail with just the right amount of fruitiness. Wow your guests or treat yo'self!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED -
90mL gin (try our Christmas gin for some holiday cheer)
180mL Pomegranate juice
Pomegranate ice cubes (made with pomegranate arils)
30mL Rosemary simple syrup
HOW TO MAKE IT -
First make your simply syrup (see the rosemary gimlet recipe above for those details). Then save yourself a whole lot of time and mess and buy a bag of frozen pomegranate arils from the supermarket. (You can thank us later.) Place arils in the bottom of an ice cube tray and fill with water then freeze.
Mix your cooled syrup, gin, pomegranate juice and ice in a shaker. Shake well and pour over your pomegranate ice cubes. Add a sprig of rosemary because you're fancy like that, and serve to great acclaim from all and sundry.
*Makes enough for two.
